LADAN KOIL (ROCK-CUT) - ANAIMALAI

HISTORICAL BACKGROUNDS :

This cave temple dedicated to Lord Muruga. It is named as Ladonkoil by the local pupil. Thus cave consists of a small Garbagraha (Sanctum - sanctorum) and a beautiful front manada with pillars. The Lords Muruga with his consort Devaseva carved out from the natural rock is the presiding deity around in the sanctum.

The are seated on a rectangular pedestal with two hands. Peacock & cock flags are also shown on the front entrance of the sanctum. According to the ‘vatteluthu Inscription’ engraved on the wall of this cave. It is known that this temple was renovated by one ‘Vattakurichi Thambiran Parivirajakar’.

It remains as a evidence for the early Pandiya cave Sculptural art and could be dated to 8th century A.D.
